In early 2017, 36 acres of land just to the west of CA-99, south of Elk Grove Park, was allocated by the United States Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs for a casino project to benefit the Wilton Rancheria — the only federally recognized tribe in Sacramento County. Following a groundbreaking in March 2021, the $500 million project — a joint venture between the Wilton Rancheria and Boyd Gaming Corporation — is now open and has established itself as a premier entertainment destination just 15 minutes from Sacramento.
Since its grand opening in 2022, Sky River Casino is gearing up for a substantial expansion, transforming into a complete entertainment resort. The upcoming expansion includes a luxurious hotel, a state-of-the-art convention center, entertainment venues, and new restaurants, promising guests an unrivaled experience of leisure and excitement all under one roof.

FAQ
Who are the Wilton Rancheria?
Wilton Rancheria is the only federally recognized Native American tribe in Sacramento County and consists of descendants of Miwok-speaking tribes. Wilton Rancheria’s indigenous territory encompasses Sacramento County, inclusive of Elk Grove. After being granted the land in a trust by the United States of America in 1928, which thereby formed the Wilton Rancheria, the federal trust was terminated in 1958 and the Tribe later lost federal recognition in 1964.
Decades later, in 1999, surviving members of Wilton Rancheria convened and requested that the United States restore federal recognition of the Tribe, a request that was approved in 2009. A new Tribe constitution was passed in 2011, establishing with it a four-branch system of government, whose administration office is located in Elk Grove.
