How It All Began...

MacQue's BBQ was founded in 1991 by Mack and Charlie Thomas. As a United States Marine Corp Veteran and retired law enforcement probation personnel, Mack Thomas always had dreams of opening his own barbecue restaurant. Mack and Charlie welcomed guests to their first location in south Sacramento with ribs and mac-n-cheese. Mack says, “We started out with just a little hole in the wall on Power Inn and Elder Creek.” With a consistent flow of returning customers, Mack knew that he had something special.

Food, Family, Friends & Fun

The family opened their restaurant in Elk Grove in 2019, where they continued serving up delicious barbecue food. General Manager, Janet, raves about the flavorful brisket on the menu. With a tender bark coating and juicy inside, the brisket is one layer of MacQue’s philosophy.

MacQue's BBQ's Involvement in Elk Grove

As MacQue’s BBQ was welcomed with open arms to Elk Grove, they give back to the community as much as possible. Michael Thomas, son of Mack Thomas and President & CEO of MacQue’s BBQ, proudly states, “Everything about who we are as a family started with giving back and being connected to the local community. We spend a lot of time reaching out to other businesses, programs, and charities, making sure that we can help when we can. We're not here just to make profit, we are here to be a part of the community at large.”

Elk Grove is fortunate to have a business leader like Michael to represent our community. Michael further explains the changes that he has seen in Elk Grove in the last 30 years... He says, “To see the growth and the diversity in Elk Grove, and the maturity being a city that is really focusing on all different cultures, and religions, it’s really refreshing because a lot of cities don’t embrace it to the extent that Elk Grove does. We have diverse leadership. Everyone is welcoming to make sure that Elk Grove is a landing spot for people to feel comfortable in their own skin and being who they want to be in this community.”
