Overview
The Historical Society was established in 1976 as the Bicentennial Committee to save the Rhoads School. We later became the Elk Grove Historical Society and are an all volunteer organization, located in Elk Grove, California.
The Historical Society manages three main museums and one school, plus several other Exhibits:
- EG House & Stage Stop
- Foulks House
- San Joaquin Township Justice Court and Jail
- Many other historical items:
- Blacksmith shop and statue
- Real covered wagon
- Original bells from schools
- Old furnishings in all the buildings
- Research Library with history and artifacts
The Elk Grove Heritage Park is open for tours the first Saturday of each month from 12 noon to 4 PM and by appointment for group tours. The museum is closed in the months of January and November.
Yearly fundraising events include:
- March – California History Days
- May – Big Day of Giving at the museum
- May – Spring Tea and Luncheon at the museum
- June – Yard Sale at the museum
- September – Plow-to-Plate Dinner & Entertainment at the Rhoads School
- September – Pinkerton Picnic in the Park Honoring a deserving person or family
- September – Mahon Ranch Hop & Brew Fest
- December – Black Tie & Santa at the museum
- December – Old Fashioned Christmas at the museum
