Overview
What is Preston Castle?
Located just 30 minutes from Elk Grove, Preston Castle was built in 1894 as a reform school for boys, designed in the Romanesque Revival style to look more like a school than a prison. It operated until 1960, and though it faced demolition, local women fought to preserve it. In 2001, the Preston Castle Foundation leased the building and later acquired ownership in 2014. The foundation now works to preserve and restore the historic site.
