Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is a top-performing school district and is nationally recognized as a leader in progressive education. With 68 schools covering 320 square miles, the district is currently the largest district in Northern California and the fifth largest in the state. Elk Grove Unified School District
Cosumnes River College
Allowing students to pursue an associate degree or certificate or to prepare them for a four-year university, this public community college opened in 1970 and is one of the most diverse two-year public colleges in the country. As of fall 2018, Cosumnes River College had an enrollment of 14,439 students, 62.4% of which were under the age of 25 and 10.4% over the age of 39. Cosumnes River College consists of a 180-acre main campus is located just south of Sacramento (approximately 10 minutes from Elk Grove's city center) and a satellite education center located in southern Elk Grove near Elk Grove Regional Park, whose facilities include a computer lab, study rooms, tutoring and counseling services, a Reading and Writing Center, Math Center and more.
California Northstate University
Dedicated to advancing "the science and art of healthcare," California Northstate University is a private medical school born from the successful launch of the College of Pharmacy in 2008. In addition to Pharmacy, the University provides comprehensive medical education in Dentistry, Medicine, and Psychology, as well as Undergraduate, Graduate, and Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate studies. The University's main campus is located in west Elk Grove, just off the I-5 Freeway, with another location nearby in Rancho Cordova. Recently, the University announced plans to construct a new, state-of-the-art, 750,000-square-foot medical center and teaching hospital in Sacramento — dubbed the Healthcare Zone.

Ranked as the 4th most diverse university in the west by U.S. News & World Report in 2021 and one of the top U.S. colleges by Money Magazine, Sacramento State — part of California State University — welcomes nearly 32,000 students who pursue 151 bachelor's degrees, 69 master's degrees, 29 teaching credentials or 5 doctoral degrees offered through the school's academic programs. The verdant, 300+ acre main campus is located in east Sacramento, approximately 20 minutes from Elk Grove.
The main campus of the University of the Pacific is located approximately 45 minutes to the south of Elk Grove in Stockton, California, with graduate campuses in nearby Sacramento and San Francisco. The University ranks #1 in career earning for low-income students (per the Georgetown University Center on Education & the Workforce) and offers over 80 undergraduate areas of study that span nine schools and colleges, including the School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Conservatory of Music — the first conservatory of music on the west coast. In 2021, Pacific welcomed over 6,000 graduate and undergraduate students (nearly 4,500 at the Stockton campus alone). Notable alumni include Super Bowl-winning football head coach Pete Carroll and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Brad Schumacher.
